Hello TTD friends,
Today I would like to share how my orientation went at Oxford House. Dr. Judy agreed to mentor me even during Covid, I am truly thankful to her for that. She is an awesome mentor. On my first day, she showed me the day to day operations of the clinic, like booking in the patients, Covid protocols, paperwork, testing the waterline. For the rest of the week, I attended the patients. There are many occasions when dental assistants are not available in certain communities, even if they are, they are office trained, not certified so it's of paramount importance that we are comfortable fulfilling the job duties of DA as well.
The residence for visiting professionals at Oxford House wasvery beautiful, with a very large shared kitchen, private rooms with attached bathrooms and an awesome view of the lake. The first day I was there, I saw a magnificent bald eagle eating fish for breakfast! Everything was very nice and tidy, there was a common laundry room as well with an iron and ironing board. It was very nice and quiet, I studied during my spare time, went for a walk and took lots of pictures.
The week-long orientation set me up for success. I am comfortably and successfully running Nelson House clinic all by myself, I owe it all to my awesome mentor!
In the next blog post, we will talk about Nelson House, my home away from home!
Love,
The Travelling Dentist.
